For a July wedding this past year, we had the privilege of working with one of our garden design clients. Knowing her background interest in gardening, we had a lot of fun choosing some of her favorite garden flowers like hydrangea and roses to brighten the reception room. We also really enjoyed using rustic containers like moss-lined fleur-de-lis zinc buckets and birch-wrapped vases.
We used hydrangea plants as centerpieces and after the wedding, we planted the hydrangeas in the couple’s garden so they have a living memory of their special day. The bride wanted to extend this idea to their guests, and had custom seed packets made as gift favors, filled with zinnia seeds for guests to plant. Having flowers at the event which do not need to be thrown out seems to have become a bit of a City House Country Mouse theme, which connects our floral and gardening passions and eliminates event waste as well.
The couple’s humor was also a highlight, including law TV show themes for their ceremony walk-in (ceremony was held in a courtroom and the bride is a lawyer), and small games and toys at all the tables for people to enjoy. It’s always a joy to see a special event really reflect people’s personalities – and this one was thoughtful, personal, and fun.
